🎬 Video Content — The Complete Workflow

The complete workflow for educators. Integrated from Morgan (Content Workflow), Keith (TikTok Growth) & EDUCreate Playbook.

💡 Morgan: Content is a scientific game, not a creative one. Model what works. Test with data. Double down on what gets results.
💡 Keith: Post every day. Be genuine. There are 40,000+ new P5/P6 students every year. Competition is not your real problem. Visibility is.
Stage 1
💡

Ideation

Ideation = your message + your format. Get this right before you film anything.

1A — Define Your Message

Your Value & Your Values

Your Value (What You Can Deliver): Your teaching skills, methods, and style. The results you get. Your unique approach that no one else does.

Your Values (What You Believe In): Students don't scroll social media to learn Maths. They scroll to feel something. Your values are what make them stop and watch.

💡Ask your existing students and parents: "Why did you choose me?" If 3 or more say the same thing — that's your content pillar. Build your videos around it.
1B — Choose Your Format
CategoryFormatBest For
Planned ContentTalking head, whiteboard, Q&A, skitTeaching tips, frameworks, advice
Clip ContentRecording from your actual classAuthenticity, behind-the-scenes, student moments
Easy ContentAI video, meme, B-roll with captionsVolume, testing hooks, quick posts
💡Don't just teach on camera. Parents don't wake up wanting to watch a maths tutorial. They wake up wanting to feel understood, inspired, or reassured. Lead with that.
1C — Build Your Swipe File
1

Create a Telegram Group Called 'Swipe File'

Add yourself and any team members. Every time you see a video that stops your scroll — save it here.

2

Save What Works Across All Platforms

IG Reels, TikTok, Facebook Reels. You're saving the format and hook style — not the content itself.

3

Model the Outliers, Not Random Videos

Only model videos that clearly outperformed. A popular video you see first in your feed might just have good timing — look for proven outliers in the creator's analytics.

1D — Find Your Baseline and Track Outliers

Your Baseline = Average Views Across Last 10 Videos

An outlier is any video that gets 3x or more your baseline. When you find one:

1E — Use Trial Reels to Test Before Investing

Instagram Trial Reels = Posts to Non-Followers Only

Your existing audience won't see it. This is the fairest test for new ideas.

  1. Record a simple, raw, unedited talking head video. No editing. No captions. 30–60 seconds.
  2. Post as Trial Reel on Instagram (Business/Creator account required).
  3. If it gets 3x+ baseline views — edit fully, add text hook, music, captions, B-rolls. Then publish as a full reel.
  4. If it gets low views — move on. Don't edit it. You saved hours.
💡Morgan's team posts up to 17 pieces of content per day across platforms. Most of that is trial reels and reposts. Volume + testing is the engine.
Stage 2
🎥

Shooting

2A — Two Types of Shoots
TypeWhat It IsExamples
Event ShootYou film what's happening naturallyYour class, a workshop, a speaking event, a vlog
Planned ShootYou schedule time to create contentTalking head, whiteboard explanation, structured teaching clip
2B — Camera Setup

For Planned Shoots (1 camera)

For Event Shoots (up to 3 cameras)

2C — Equipment Priorities
EquipmentRecommendationPriority
MicrophoneDJI Osmo Mic (clip to phone/lapel)★★★★★ HIGHEST
Phone CameraiPhone 15 or above (minimum)★★★★ HIGH
Event CameraSony vlog camera (e.g. ZV-E10)★★★ MEDIUM
StabilisationTripod or stable surface★★★ MEDIUM
LightingNatural light or ring light★★★ MEDIUM
💡Audio quality matters more than video quality. A blurry video with clear audio is watchable. Clear video with bad audio gets scrolled past immediately. Run audio through Adobe Podcast to strip background noise — free with Microsoft account.
2D — Class Recording Setup (Keith's Method)

Record Every Physical Class with an Insta360

Every lesson is uploaded to Google Drive (viewer access only). This achieves two things at once:

One lesson = one video archive for parents + 2–3 potential TikTok clips. No extra work.

Stage 3
✂️

Editing

3A — The Correct Editing Order
⚠️Always follow this order. If you do captions first, everything goes out of sync when you cut.
#StepWhy
1Cut — Remove silences, filler words, dead airTighten the pacing before anything else
2Zooms — Add zoom-in effects for emphasisEvery 3–5 seconds, add a change to maintain retention
3B-Rolls — Overlay footage showing what you're talking aboutShow don't tell — adds emotion and proof
4Captions — Auto-generate, then clean up typosDone last so it's perfectly synced to the cut video
💡Speed your video up to 1.2–1.3x on export. It tightens everything and feels more energetic without sounding rushed.
3B — B-Rolls: Show, Don't Tell

B-Roll Shows Your Life and Values, Not Just Decorates

You say: "I really care about my students' wellbeing"

Use B-roll whenever:

3C — Editing Options by Team Size
OptionWho It's ForToolsCost
Self-edit with AISolo tutors, just startingOdysser (odysser.com), Submagic.co~$20–30/month
Overseas editorModerate budgetUpwork (Philippines/Malaysia)$25–30/video
Local SG editorQuality + easy commsReferrals, freelance platforms$80–150/video
AI + trained editorScaling with a teamSubmagic + editor trained in AI toolsBest ROI long-term
💡Odysser (odysser.com) is easier to start — purely prompt-based. Submagic (submagic.co) is more powerful but requires editing knowledge. For overseas editors, budget extra time for corrections — they won't understand Singlish or local context.
Video Editing Software — Other Than CapCut

Descript — Edit Video by Editing Text

Descript lets you edit video the same way you edit a document — delete a word from the transcript and the video clip is cut. No timeline editing needed. Great for recorded Zoom sessions, talking head videos, and class recordings.

The 5 Hooks
🪝

Morgan's Hook Framework

Every video needs to pass through 5 hooks to maximise views, follows, leads, and sales.

Hook 1 — Visual Hook

How you look in the first frame. The first frame is a frozen image for many viewers. Make it worth clicking.

Hook 2 — Verbal Hook (first 3–7 seconds)

Your first words must earn the next 60 seconds.

Hook TypeExample
Dramatic drop"My student's results dropped from 80 to 50. I asked what happened..."
Shocking statement"I didn't speak to my children the whole day."
Challenge question"Why is Singapore PSLE Maths so hard?"
Bold result claim"No tuition. Jumped from AL5 to AL2. Really meh?"
Curiosity gap"The one thing I wish I knew before I started teaching..."

Hook 3 — Text Hook (biggest underused lever)

A bold text overlay in the first 5–9 seconds. This single element can multiply your views by 1.5x to 3x.

Examples: "When grades suddenly crashed" · "What teachers do behind the scenes" · "I just rejected a $30K client"

"The text hook creates the open loop in their brain. Even if they don't hear your first line clearly, they read the text and stay to find out what happens." — Morgan Tay

Hook 4 — Music Hook (the emotion layer)

Music sets the emotional tone before you say a single word.

Video TypeMusic Style
Personal story / emotionalSoft piano, acoustic, 'Blue' by Yung Kai
Product promo / high energyUpbeat, motivational pop
Teaching contentLight, neutral background tone

Hook 5 — Caption Hook (the most skipped hook)

The first 1–2 lines of your written post caption, visible before the "more" button. On Facebook and IG, people often read this before they even click play.

"Kamala spent $1.1 billion and lost. Here's what Trump did differently that every educator can learn from."

How to write caption hooks with AI (Claude):

  1. Send Claude 5–10 examples of your past posts (teaches your voice)
  2. Copy the transcript from your video (Fathom or CapCut)
  3. Paste both with this prompt: "Use my voice and style to convert this transcript into a Facebook/IG caption. Start with a strong hook that creates curiosity."
  4. Review and tweak — never post raw AI output. Read it aloud first.
💡You don't write captions. You convert transcripts into captions using AI. One video = one transcript = one caption. Done in 2 minutes.
Stage 4
📱

Publishing

4A — Platform Priority

Instagram is where the real buyers live. TikTok is where you get discovered. Facebook is where the parents are. Post everywhere — but prioritise IG.

On TikTok, most followers have no profile picture — they're there to be entertained. On Instagram, everyone has a name and face — they're there to connect. Buyers come from Instagram.

4B — The Posting Order
OrderPlatformWhy
1stInstagram Trial ReelTest with non-followers before committing to full publish
2ndTikTok (1–2 min before everything else)TikTok penalises content that already exists online
3rdInstagram (full post)Primary platform for leads and sales
4thFacebook (separate post)Separate posts = 3–5x more reach than cross-posting
5thYouTube ShortsLong-term SEO and reach
6thLinkedInBranding only. Low views but professional presence
💡Cross-posting IG + Facebook together kills your Facebook reach. Always post them separately, even if it takes 5 more minutes.
4C — ManyChat Automation

Convert Comments Into Leads Automatically

When someone comments a keyword on your post, they automatically receive a DM with your link, resource, or next step.

Example: Post a video about a study technique. Caption ends with: "Comment PSLE and I'll DM you the full worksheet." Every person who comments gets automatically sent a link.

What to offer via ManyChat:

ManyChat works on Instagram. For TikTok and Facebook, Claude Code can build a similar automation.

4D — The 4 Metrics That Matter
MetricWhat It Tells YouWhen To Use It
ViewsReach and discoverabilityCheck which topics and hooks attract new eyeballs
FollowsNew followers generatedMeasures how well you convert viewers into audience
LeadsDMs, comments, keyword triggersMeasures how well you attract your target audience
SalesActual signups or purchasesThe ultimate metric — most important, hardest to track
💡A video with 200 views but 5 leads is a better video than one with 5,000 views and 0 leads. Always measure against your actual business goal.

How to Grow on TikTok — Keith's Method

Keith grew from 0 to 10K+ TikTok followers in 2 years with $0 in ads. 50% of his students now come from TikTok.

Foundation
Content Strategy

Keith's content that goes viral:

Conversion Funnel

TikTok discovers you → IG connects you → WhatsApp converts you

💡Keith has never spent a dollar on ads. Organic content + word of mouth = 127 students. If you need ads to survive, something is wrong with your content first.

How to Film a Talking Head Video

The Script Formula (60–90 seconds max)
SectionDurationWhat To Do
Emotional Hook0–5 secSay the most interesting, dramatic, or provocative thing first. Create an open loop.
Text Hook on screen0–8 secBold title overlay. Shows what the video is about. Disappears at 7–8 seconds.
Super-Hook (credibility)5–15 sec"I've taught 143 students..." or "As a teacher of 7 years..."
Body15–50 secYour 2–3 main points. Short sentences. One idea at a time.
Resolution / CTA50–70 secClose the loop. Ask a question, give a CTA, or end with emotional payoff.
4 Video Frameworks for Educators
Framework 1
Personal Story: Student Crisis
0–5sHook: Student's results dropped dramatically. Emotional discovery.
5–15sDiscovery: You asked what happened. Something broke open.
15–30sContext: Reveal the deeper issue. Your background. Your response.
30–45sDedication: You stayed late. You went beyond the lesson.
45–55sPersonal cost: It was 11pm. Your own family was waiting.
55–70sResolution: How it turned out. End with a question for the viewer.

Framework 2
Teacher Dedication: Sacrifice
0–5sHook: "I didn't speak to my children the whole day."
5–15sChallenge: What happened to you (illness, personal problem, long day)
15–30sInner conflict: But your students were expecting you.
30–45sDedication: What you did to show up anyway.
45–55sPersonal cost: What it took out of you physically or emotionally.
55–70sResolution: A parent thanked you. A student noticed. Was it worth it?

Best for: Showcasing commitment. Attracting parents who value consistency and reliability.

Framework 3
Product Promotion
0–10sProblem: Name the pain point parents already feel.
10–20sStakes: Why does this matter now? What's at risk?
20–30sFailed solution: What a parent tried that didn't work.
30–45sSolution: Show your product. Step by step. Just follow.
45–55sUSP: What makes yours better. No guessing. No questioning.
55–70sSuccess + CTA: One result. Then: "Comment X and I'll DM you."

Best for: Promoting books, worksheets, assessment papers, digital products.

Framework 4
Subject-Specific Product
0–5sDynamic hook: Bold movement or gesture. "No tuition. AL5 to AL2. Really possible?"
5–15sProblem: What parents or students are struggling with in this subject.
15–30sInvestigation: How you discovered the root issue.
30–40sSolution: Introduce your guide/resource. Show it on camera.
40–50sMetaphor: "It's like following a buffet line. Just pick up and go."
50–60sCTA: "Comment PSLE and I'll DM you the details."

Best for: Subject-specific books, assessment kits, exam prep guides.

Universal Filming Checklist

Film in vertical format (9:16)
Face the light source — never have it behind you
Mic on before you press record — always
First 3 seconds: your strongest hook. Move it to the front in editing if needed.
Text hook visible for first 5–9 seconds of the video
Music: background only, under 10% volume, 1M+ view songs
Edit order: Cut → Zooms → B-rolls → Captions
Speed up to 1.2–1.3x on export
Length: 60–90 seconds maximum
Post TikTok first (1–2 min before IG and Facebook)
Post Facebook separately from Instagram for 3–5x more reach
📊

Content Mix Recommendation

FrequencyContent TypePurpose
Weekly (1–2x)Personal story or teacher dedication videoBuild emotional connection and trust
Weekly (1–2x)Teaching tip or subject contentEstablish expertise and niche authority
Monthly (2x)Product promotion videoDrive sales and leads
Exam seasonExam analysis and results contentViral potential, highest reach window
OngoingTrial reels (unedited, raw)Test topics and hooks before investing editing time
💡Aim for 100 videos in your first 3 months without expecting leads. After 50–100 videos, your style finds itself, your outliers emerge, and your audience starts growing. Don't measure too early.
