Always Be Closing
A tutor's practical guide to turning every conversation into a step forward.

Pitch Later
Lead with questions. Understand what the parent really needs before you say anything about your programme.

Name what they're already thinking — before they bring it up. Address the pink elephant in the room.

Next Step
Don't ask for the full commitment. Ask for something small. Every conversation needs a yes to move toward.
Closing doesn't happen at the end of the call. It starts from your very first message.
A — Ask First, Pitch Later
Before you say a word about your programme, ask questions. Always.
Scripts
"What's your child struggling with most right now?"
"Have you tried other tutors before? What happened?"
"What would a good result look like by end of year?"
"Have you tried other tutors before? What happened?"
"What would a good result look like by end of year?"
Once you know their answers, match your programme to exactly what they said. They feel heard — not sold to.
B — Bring Up What They're Already Thinking
Don't wait for objections. Say it first — casually, confidently.
Example Script
"A lot of parents ask me — why not just use YouTube? Those are great for general content. But when your child is stuck at 10pm and needs someone who knows their weak spots — that's where we're different."
"It's too expensive"
→ Walk them through annual vs monthly value.
"My child just needs basics"
→ Explain what basic help misses.
"Let me think about it"
→ Ask: "What specifically are you thinking through?"
C — Close with a Next Step, Not a Full Decision
Don't ask "do you want to sign up?" Ask something smaller.
1
"Want me to send you the details?"
2
"Can we do a quick 10-minute chat this week?"
3
"Shall I reserve a spot while you think it through?"
Every conversation should end with something to say yes to.
That's Always Be Closing. Before ABC Can Work — Fix Your Money Mindset
Old Thinking
"I'm charging too much."
You shrink your price before the parent even flinches. You apologise before you even pitch.
New Thinking
"I'm giving a lot."
If your student goes from failing to confident — $3,000 for a year is cheap. Believe that. Your conversation changes.
Charging more helps the student — parents who invest take it seriously, show up, and do the work.

When They Don't Say Yes — Still Don't Stop Closing
Script
"Just so I can improve — was there something about the programme that didn't quite fit what you were looking for?"
Then add them to your WhatsApp broadcast or Telegram. Always be closing means the conversation never fully ends.
They say no today
Ask for feedback. Add to nurture list.
1-3 months later
Send value. Check in. No pitch.
Next exam result drops
They remember you. They reach out.
They're ready now
You close. Because you stayed warm.
Some parents come back 3 months later. Some after the next exam result. Keep the door warm.
One Sentence That Changes Everything
✗ Before
"I teach P6 Maths."
✓ After
"I help kids who dread Maths actually start believing they can do it — before PSLE."
More ways to say it:
"I work with P5 and P6 students who are borderline — where the right push at the right time makes all the difference."
"I specialise in kids who fear Maths and parents who are hands-on and want to be involved."
20 DM Openers — Invite to a Conversation
Goal: get a reply. One question, warm tone, no pitch. End every message with a question — questions invite, statements close doors.
